Province comes onboard!
Cost Savings and Sustainability for Government.
Nova Scotia Environment has ratified a contract with CarShareHFX that serves as a model for all provincial government departments. The agreement was the result of months of due diligence and careful review by legal advisors for both parties.

"We took the time to do this correctly," says Pam Cooley of CarShareHFX, "as this sets a precedent not only for the province, but for other levels of governments and CarSharing in Canada altogether!"

The Magic Musical Mobility Partner
CarShareHFX is a new mobility option for office staff, replacing some cab trips and car rentals. Symphony NS Business Manager Sandra Chappell told CarShareHFX General Manager Peter Zimmer that they will also add some of their volunteers to their Drivers List. “We often use volunteer drivers for transporting visiting artists and for various other tasks. With CarShareHFX we’ll be able to use volunteer drivers who don’t own a car.”

“And since you don’t have to have a Nova Scotia license to be a CarShareHFX driver we are looking at offering visiting artists the option of being on the SNS Drivers List as an extra perk. Then they’d be able to explore Halifax and Nova Scotia on their own in their free time very simply.”

SNS has looked at the transportation budget implications and sees their Workplace Membership both directly saving money and simplifying their operations, leaving more available to realize the artistic objectives of the Symphony.

CarShareHFX’s partnering with Symphony Nova Scotia goes two steps further:

First, we offer all SNS staff – office staff and all musicians, conductors, composers – a $100 rebate on the cost of joining CarShareHFX. That 40% saving is a nice perk. Then comes the real savings of a CarShareHFX Membership, freedom from the costs and hassles of owning a car (or not needing a second car anymore) – a real help in stretching household budgets without giving up needed driving.
Second, our Sponsorship contributes cash to the SNS budget. When anyone puts the words “Symphony NS” into the CarShareHFX Promo Code on their Membership application CarShareHFX sends SNS $50. And then SNS sends that new CarShareHFX member a pair of concert tickets as a ‘Thank you’. A three-way Win-Win-Win!

This idea has traction.
Think you might rent a car before the end of March? It'll still be winter driving time. “All Season” tires are the year-round standard for rental car companies. Snow tires are an extra cost option at $10 - $12 a day on some cars in their fleets. There might not be one available when you need it.

Park Hassle-Free at YHZ!
CarShareHFX equipped its fleet with MacPasses for hassle-free driving and to minimize idling in lineups crossing the harbour bridges. CarShareHFX has stepped up to MacPass Plus for hassle-free airport parking. The parkade at Halifax Stanfield International Airport is now MacPass Plus-friendly. This is so convenient! Push the MacPass button at the parkade entrance and drive in. To exit, forget about tickets, kiosks, line-ups, the fumble for change at the cashier’s window: simply take the MacPass lane and drive away! Your parking charges appear on your monthly CarShareHFX statement. (For the bridges, MacPass charges have always been included in our hourly rates. Sweet!)
